Access to Information

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is committed to promoting and actively developing a culture of openness, transparency and accountability embodied in the Access to Information legislation.

Your right of access to information comes from:

  • General Data Protection Regulation 2018
  • The Data Protection Act 2018
  • The Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002
  • The Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004

The Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 was introduced to provide you with a right of access to information held by us.  You are entitled to access recorded information we hold, subject to certain conditions and exemptions. Further information is available in our Freedom of Information section.

We have prepared a Guide to Information (Publication Scheme) which sets out the information which we make available routinely and allows you to access this information quickly and easily without the need to submit a request under the Act.

We provide a range of prevention and emergency response services to the communities of Scotland. In order to do this, we keep essential personal information about people who use our services. Therefore, we may hold personal information about you.

We believe it is very important to treat personal information lawfully and correctly.  Under the Data Protection Act 2018 you have rights to be informed and to see what information is held about you. Further information is available in our Data Protection section.

The Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004 (EIRs) give you the right to ask for information which 'relates to the environment' held by us, subject to certain exceptions.  More details about the information which falls under the EIRs and how to access the information is available in our Environmental Regulations section.
