We are SFRS … You are SFRS
Applications from motivated individuals who have drive, determination, and enthusiasm and who share our values of Safety, Teamwork, Respect & Innovation, to work with our communities and help people when they are most in need.
You MUST be aged 18 years or over (at date of application), meet the required medical and physical fitness standards and be able to demonstrate key qualities such as exceptional team working, communication & problem-solving skills.
Your service. Your career.
Becoming a firefighter with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is a rewarding career, and it comes with a wide variety of opportunities. No two days will ever be the same.
Not only could you look to progress, you can also go on to specialise or develop your skills in several areas, including:
- Prevention and fire safety
- Driving Fire Appliances
- Safe Working at Height
- Mentoring younger people
- Working with partners and other emergency services
A flexible way of life
As a service, we believe in a positive work-life balance. Our firefighters work on a four day on, four day off shift pattern with alternating two day runs on daytime and night-time shifts.
And while shift patterns are irregular, this is no normal 9 to 5 job – and you might find it leaves you with more flexibility in your day-to-day life.
Modern Apprenticeships
SFRS Firefighter Training and Development Programme is now completed as a Modern Apprenticeship programme. This does not alter entry requirements but means at the end of the three-year Firefighter Training and Development Programme trainees will have completed a Modern Apprenticeship qualification as well as an SVQ.
