How we consulted the public

Details on how the public shared their views with us

Overview

The Service Delivery Review public consultation ran for 12 weeks between June and September 2025.

More than 800 people attended our public meetings and drop-in sessions. We received more than 3,700 survey responses on the proposed changes to more than 30 fire stations across Scotland.

The original timeline was to present recommendations to the SFRS Board for final decision by December 2025, however this was delayed in order to consider all feedback is analysed alongside operational evidence.

Statutory restrictions during the pre‑election period earlier this year ahead of the Scottish Parliament election in May also impacted the timing of decisions.

The SFRS Board will meet on Monda, 22 June to consider the outcome of the Service Delivery Review (SDR) and make final decisions on the proposed changes.

The consultation document provides lots of information about the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and why we need to change.

The document, which is in a PDF format, also lists all 23 options for change across Scotland, as well as the pros and cons of each one.

Public consultation meetings

We held a series of public meetings for communities potentially impacted by the proposals for change.

There were a mix of meetings types, which included in-person, online, and drop-in sessions.
