Second option pension exercise
Matthews “2nd Option” Pension Exercise
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is working with the Scottish Public Pensions Agency (SPPA) to contact On Call staff affected by the 2nd Option pensions exercise or Matthews Case.
Further information on what the 2nd Option exercise and the Matthews Case is can be found on the SPPA’s website.
Around 3,700 former and current SFRS employees are affected by this exercise.
We are working with SPPA to send Notice of Intent letters to in-scope individuals asking them to let SFRS know if they wish to receive details of benefits they could receive, and how much they would have to pay in employee contributions to receive these.
Due to the high number of people involved, this will take some time and will be done in a phased approach.
Former Colleagues
As part of this exercise, we must try and reach former colleagues who were employed as On Call (retained) firefighters at any time during the period of 7 April 2000 and 5 April 2006.
If you were employed by a legacy fire service during this period and believe you may be in-scope for this exercise, please contact the 2nd Option project team at 2ndOptionPensionProject@firescotland.gov.uk.
Please download and attach a completed expresion of interest form to the email.
If you think you may know anyone else who is in scope, please ask them to get in touch with the Service using the above email.
Letters will be issued in phases based on geographical areas, outlined below. Please let us know if you haven’t received a letter within two weeks of the indicated date for your area.
