The group who are based at fire stations all across the East and West Dunbartonshire, Argyll and Bute area, heard an inspirational talk from invited speaker Pippa Milne, Chief Executive, Argyll and Bute Council about her career.

Pippa highlighted the impact of a supportive network and the valued contribution of on call firefighters.

She said: “The fire service is such a vital part of our communities. Your dedication makes a real difference, and sharing your experiences could inspire someone else to step up and make that difference too.”

Pippa also invited the group to be part of one of her podcasts in a bid to encourage other women to consider the role of a firefighter and join the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS).

The meeting also included discussions about leadership, career pathways and mentoring.

On call firefighter Sarah Keating from Appin Community Fire Station said: “Hearing Pippa’s journey was so encouraging, and it’s good to know that with determination and support, there is no limit to what we can achieve.”
