Area Commander David Dourley is SFRS Local Senior Officer for City of Edinburgh. He said: “We were alerted at 6.38pm on Sunday, 19 July to reports of a fire in the open at Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh.

“Operations Control mobilised six fire appliances and specialist resources to the scene where firefighters worked to extinguish a fire affecting an area of grass.

“Our crews remained on scene until today, working to extinguish remaining hotspots and dampen down the area.

"I would like to thank all of our crews for their work and our partners for their support. I would also like to thank the public or their patience and understanding."

A Very High risk of wildfire warning remains in place for Eastern, Southern and Central Highland parts of Scotland.

“We also urge people to remain vigilant during this hot spell of weather, and to follow our advice to take care outdoors to help us avoid fires as much as possible."

“Operations will continue today until the fire is fully extinguished.

“There are no reported casualties.

“We ask the public to please avoid the area and remind them that road closures are in place.

“We also urge people to remain vigilant during this hot spell of weather, and we thank them for their understanding.”

“There are no reported casualties and crews remain at the scene.”
