Calculation test
What to expect
There are 12 questions. 6 questions will be verbally read out to you and 6 questions will be in writing. You must get at least 9 correct to progress. The calculations will be carried out under exam conditions:
- No communicating with other candidates
- No looking at others work
- No calculators
- No reference to written notes
You will have 8 minutes to complete the test.
Example questions
Question: You have 20 minutes of air. The time now is 13:45. What time will your air run out?
Answer: 13:45 + 20 minutes = 14:05
Question: You have 290 bars of air in your tank and your gauge now reads 102 bars. How much air have you used?
Answer: 290 bars – 102 bars = 188 bars
Question: A length of hose measures 15m. If the distance to the fire hydrant is 150m, how many lengths of hose are required?
Answer: 150 ÷ 15 = 10 lengths
