Application for a wholetime firefighter roles with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service
Registering your interest is the first stage of the wholetime firefighter recruitment process.
From 12.30pm on Tuesday, 24 March until 12.30pm Friday, 27 March, you must sign up on myjobscotland and complete the screening questions. These questions check that you meet the basic criteria for the role.
If you’re successful, you’ll move on to the next stage of recruitment.
We recommend creating an account on myjobscotland ahead of the opening date. This helps ensure you are ready to register as soon as the window opens.

You will be able to register your interest through myjobscotland.
To start your registration, create or log in to your myjobscotland account, then complete the screening questions.
Once the registration period closes, we will review and invite selected candidates to complete the next stage of the process.
We will send all communications to the email address linked to your myjobscotland account. Please ensure your contact details, including your home address, are up to date.
Check your inbox regularly, including your spam or junk folder, to avoid missing any important updates.
If you are progressing to the next stage, you will receive an email with a unique ID number and a link to complete the application questions via our AI‑enabled platform.
Once you have this email, click the link and enter your unique ID number and email address.
You must answer behavioural questions, with a 500-word limit for each question.
Successful applicants will be invited to assessment days and a selection centre.
You will need to successfully pass each stage to progress to the next.
The assessment centre will be in two stages.
The first stage will involve a fitness assessment and a numerical calculation test. We have helpful information on how to prepare for the fitness assessment.
If you pass this stage, you will be invited to attend the second stage which will happen on a different date.
The second stage involves our practical selection tests (PSTs). We have helpful information and videos of our practical selection tests.
At the selection centre, you will be required to deliver a short presentation between 5-10 minutes, followed by an interview.
At this stage, we want to hear about your own personal values and the skills you have that will make you an effective wholetime firefighter.
During your interview, you will be asked a series of questions designed to explore your understanding of what it means to be a firefighter.
