Bonfire Campaign Communications Toolkit

Our Bonfire Night campaign

Bonfire Night is one of the busiest nights of the year for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. Last year, 2023, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) received 892 calls on Bonfire Night, with Operations Control staff mobilising to 355 bonfires.

Our Bonfire Night campaign aims to raise awareness of the dangers and to help keep our communities safe. SFRS recommends the public attend organised displays, if possible. Running across multiple digital channels including our website and social media, in addition to media releases, our #BonfireSafety campaign aims to highlight key safety messaging for local communities, our emergency service partners, other key national and regional stakeholders and local authorities during this period.

Always try to attend organised bonfire and fireworks displays. If planning a bonfire at home, keep it away from buildings, vehicles and trees. Any bonfire which does not meet safety conditions may be extinguished by firefighters. Our firefighters don’t go to work to be attacked. We are here to keep people safe, and we can’t help people who need us if you attack us. Help support us to bring every incident to a safe conclusion this Bonfire Night. Respect the emergency services.
