SFRS marks Emergency Services Day

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) is today honouring blue light workers across the UK as part of Emergency Services Day.

Emergency Services Day, also known as 999 Day, has become a milestone event for the SFRS and its partners since launching in 2017.

The annual occasion highlights the sacrifices made by the UK’s close to 2 million emergency service workers.

It also commemorates the more than 7,500 emergency service staff who have lost their lives in the line of duty during the past 200 years.

To mark the event, SFRS held a two minutes' silence at stations and HQ sites across the country.

Chief Officer Stuart Stevens said: "Emergency Services Day gives us all an opportunity to really reflect on the sacrifices made by emergency service workers across the UK.

"It also presents us with space to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our staff, and all emergency service staff across the UK, for all they do for their communities."
