SFRS crews respond to more than 700 calls during Bonfire Night
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) crews responded to more than 700 emergency calls during just an eight-hour period on Bonfire Night.
Between 3.30pm and midnight a total of 751 calls were made to the SFRS, and firefighters attended more than 250 bonfires.
Sadly, two attacks were also recorded against SFRS personnel.
In the run up to the event, the SFRS had appealed to the public to be aware of the dangers of both fireworks and unsafe bonfires with a message to consider the impact of their actions on communities and emergency services.
Deputy Assistant Chief Officer Garry Mackay is the SFRS Head of Operations.
He said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank our staff for their tireless efforts to keep our communities safe during this busy and challenging period.
"While it's clear our preparatory work with our partners and communities contributed towards a reduction in fire-related antisocial behaviour, put simply, one attack on our staff is one too many.
“We take an absolutely zero tolerance approach to this kind of behaviour and will now be working with our police partners to identify those responsible."
