Next generation of wholetime firefighters graduates in Newbridge
After a long and rigorous training, twelve wholetime firefighters graduated recently.
Twelve recruits have successfully completed a demanding 17-week programme at the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service’s (SFRS) Newbridge Training Centre near Edinburgh.
They officially graduated as wholetime firefighters in a ceremony held on Friday, 16 May.
The comprehensive training covered all core areas of modern fire and rescue service, including hazardous materials response and rescue operations.

Among the graduates was Trainee Firefighter Amy McKinnon. She said: “I’m really excited to be graduated today and I look forward to starting my career.
"This was one of the toughest things I have ever done, but also one of the most rewarding."
The SFRS encourages anyone interested in a career in firefighting to consider applying for future recruitment opportunities.
While the training programme is challenging, recruits receive support from experienced instructors and a strong team environment. They will be guided every step of the way to help them succeed.
Stuart Stevens is the SFRS's Chief Officer. He said: “It's an honour to welcome these new firefighters into our family.
“They are now part of a team that will work together for the safety of our communities across Scotland.”
Family members, instructors, and colleagues joined the ceremony to celebrate the graduates’ achievements.
They will now take up posts in fire stations across Scotland, including Amy who will be stationed at Kirkcaldy Community Fire Station.
