Applications now open to become a firefighter in Scotland
We are now accepting applications to become wholetime firefighters

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) is now accepting applications for wholetime firefighter roles across the east, north, and west of Scotland.
We are calling on individuals from all backgrounds who want to make a difference to consider joining one of the largest fire and rescue service in the world, serving around five million people across Scotland.
This is a unique opportunity to begin a career that is both challenging and rewarding, responding to emergencies, supporting local communities, and helping to save lives.
Chief Officer Stuart Stevens said: “Joining the SFRS means joining a national organisation with a strong local presence, where you will be supported, challenged, and proud of the difference you make.
This is a chance to build a career where your values, courage, and commitment matter every day.
We encourage all prospective applicants to take time to understand the role and its requirements. Our step-by-step application guide is available now to help you get started early.
Successful applicants will undergo a multi-stage selection process, including physical assessments, medical evaluations, and interviews, with support available at every stage.
We’re committed to continue building a workforce that reflects Scotland’s diverse communities and welcomes applications from everyone, particularly from women, people from ethnic minority backgrounds, and members of the LGBTQ+ community, who are currently underrepresented in the Service.
Over recent weeks, we’ve been sharing real stories from serving firefighters to offer insight into the role and what it means to be part of the Service.
Applications officially open today, on Thursday, 14 August, and will close when we reach the application limit.
