The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has appointed a new senior officer for Aberdeen City who has vowed to protect communities from new risks.

Local Senior Officer Bruce Farquharson has worked in several key positions within the SFRS including the Service’s Transformation Programme.

He said: “I am delighted like to welcome Bruce into his new role.

“I am keenly aware of the risks that face our communities and how they continue to change, including an elderly population increasingly calling on our support to stay safe and severe weather related flooding.

“I very much look forward to working with Bruce and helping him shape Service delivery in Aberdeen.”

LSO Farquharson first joined Tayside Fire and Rescue 25 years ago and also worked within the Service’s Response and Resilience and Civil Contingencies teams.

He said: “I’m delighted and honoured to have been appointed as the Local Senior Officer for Aberdeen City.

“I’m very much looking forward to working with the local team and our community partners to continue to deliver the highest levels of service to all the communities of Aberdeen City.

“As our transformation journey continues I will be focussed on ensuring that our firefighters are trained, equipped and ready to respond to the new risks facing our communities - while prevention will undoubtedly remain a key priority.”
