Cabinet Secretary Michael Matheson was given a glimpse of our new purpose-built training centre at Stornoway Airport.

He was welcomed to the new facility by Chief Officer Alasdair Hay and Chair of the Board Pat Watters earlier today.

The major investment in the Western Isles includes a new feature for firefighters to practice working in extreme temperatures – called a carbonaceous unit.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has entered into a partnership with Highlands and Islands Airports Ltd (HIAL), whose own fire and rescue personnel will also be able to use the facility. This will foster a solid partnership with their colleagues at local retained stations.
