Members of the public in and around Kilmuir on the Isle of Skye are being invited to attend a public consultation session with the area’s firefighters following the tragic death of an elderly man in a house fire on Boxing Day.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is carrying out a Post Domestic Incident Response (PDIR) to the incident to engage with communities and provide them with reassurance and advice around home fire safety.

The community engagement session will take place on Tuesday 1 March 2016 in the Kilmuir Hall, Kilmuir between 8pm and 10pm and firefighters who are hosting the event are encouraging as many people as possible to attend.

Crews will also be dropping fire safety leaflets through doors in the area and encouraging people to sign up for free Home Fire Safety Visits as part of their commitment to keeping people safe from fire in their homes.

At the event the public will have an opportunity to discuss fire safety with Firefighters and Community Safety Advocates and be able to sign up for a free Home Fire Safety Visit.
