The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 8.15am on Sunday, 25 December to reports of flooding caused by a ruptured water main.

A total of six appliances - including two specialist water rescue teams - were immediately mobilised to the Bathgate Road area of Bathgate.

Firefighters assisted the local roads department to pump water away from the affected area. 

The crews also used sandbags and pumps to divert the flooding from residential properties. 

The water levels are now receding. 

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service presently remains in attendance. 

SFRS Group Manager Tom McGrath said: "Our crews worked tirelessly in difficult and challenging conditions to ensure homes were protected so that families could continue to enjoy the Christmas celebrations.

"We would like to thank our firefighters and our partners including Police Scotland, West Lothian Council and Scottish Water for resolving this incident quickly and safely."
