Betty Dennis died on April 22 in Wiltshire, South-West England, and due to the coronavirus travel restrictions, her son Aggie Dennis, his wife and daughters were unable to travel to attend her funeral.
However, her final journey was marked by firefighters from Trowbridge Fire Station on May 11, who stood to attention and bowed their heads in respect on Aggie’s behalf.
The poignant moment was arranged after Aggie’s daughter Rowena contacted Crew Manager Paul Beety at Trowbridge.
Aggie, a Watch Commander at Tarbert in Argyle and Bute, said: “I’m indebted to Trowbridge fire station for giving my mum the send-off I couldn’t.
“Once again, the fire service family has come together when they were needed most.
“I look forward to visiting the station myself when I can, to thank the team in person; what they did may seem minor to some, but it meant the world to me.”
