24 February 2020
MORE than 50 firefighters have been tackling a large fire at an Invergordon Primary School.
Operations Control mobilised nine fire appliances, a height appliance and several supporting resources to Park Primary School after the alarm was raised at 10.00am on Monday, February 24.
Crews have been working around and inside the building wearing breathing apparatus to prevent fire spread wherever possible.
The school was fully and safely evacuated by staff and firefighters, and pupils were moved to another nearby school by Highland Council.
There are no reported casualties.
Area Commander Rab Middlemiss is the Local Senior Officer for Highland.
He said: “This has been a very challenging incident, and crews have been working throughout the day in difficult conditions to bring this fire under control.
“We have attempted to surround the fire as much as possible, tackling the flames from outside and inside the building, to try and prevent further damage.
“The damage to the school is significant, however we will remain in attendance for as long as it takes to ensure this fire is fully extinguished.
“I would urge members of the public to stay clear of the area to allow access for the emergency services.”
The incident is ongoing and the investigation is yet to commence, however the cause is not through to be suspicious at this time.
LSO Middlemiss added: “My thanks go to our partners and the community for their ongoing support, the quick actions of school staff in ensuring a safe evacuation and our firefighters for their continued efforts and dedication."
