16 June 2018
More than 120 firefighters are currently working to extinguish a significant fire at The Glasgow School of Art.
Operations Control has mobilised a total of 20 fire engines to the scene of the fire which has taken hold of the Mackintosh building.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was first alerted at 11.19pm on Friday, June 15.
There are no reported casualties and nearby properties have been evacuated as a precaution.
The fire has now spreading to adjoining buildings and firefighters are working hard to contain the flames.
Deputy Chief Officer Iain Bushell is the officer in charge at the scene.
He said: "This is an extremely challenging and complex incident, but the response and professionalism of our firefighters has been exceptional.
"The fire has taken hold several properties including the 02 ABC nightclub causing extensive damage.
"This will be a prolonged incident and crews will remain on the scene as they work to prevent further fire spread and damage.
"We would urge the occupants of surrounding buildings to remain indoors and keep their windows closed."
