Firefighters cut the roof off a car earlier this morning to reach a woman who was trapped following a collision.

They used hydraulic cutting gear to slice through the vehicle in less than half an hour and create enough space to safely free the driver.

She was then placed onto a rescue board and lifted free of the crocked car and transferred to the care of waiting ambulance crew.

The casualty was thereafter taken to Monklands Hospital in Airdrie for treatment.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service had been alerted at 8.28am on Monday, 13 June to reports that the car had collided with a barrier at Forest Road in Cumbernauld.

Firefighters left the scene precisely an hour later after ensuring the area had been made safe.
