Firefighters fight major blaze at commercial premises near Inverurie

Over 50 firefighters and seven fire engines are fighting a major blaze at a commercial property near Inverurie.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service received an emergency call at 4.40am this morning regarding a fire at a commercial premises on the outskirts of the town. Three separate buildings are involved including a sawmill, a photography studio and a repair workshop.

Crews from Inverurie, Oldmeldrum, Kintore, Aberdeen and Insch are currently battling the fire with the use of five high-pressure jet hoses and two aerial rescue pumps. An incident command unit and welfare vehicle are also in attendance.

Group Manager David Rout said: “This is a very complex building which as presented us with a significant and challenging fire. Our firefighters are working hard to extinguish the blaze.”

Police Scotland and Scottish Ambulance Service crews remain at the scene. All persons were accounted for quickly and no injuries have been reported to SFRS.

A cause for the blaze has yet to be determined and updates will be issued once available.

UPDATE - 4:50pm (Thursday 28 April):

We have five appliances, including a high reach, at the scene as well as an incident support vehicle.

The crews are continuing work to isolate pockets of fire and conduct dampening down operations.

UPDATE - 10:50am (Friday 29 April):

As the fire was progressively extinguished operations were scaled down throughout the evening, with a single SFRS crew remaining at the scene until shortly before 2am Friday to maintain a watching brief and dampen down.

Officers from the SFRS Fire Investigation Unit are now in attendance and will work to establish the circumstances surrounding the fire.
