Four appliances attended the incident yesterday and large number of pigs were moved from adjacent building to safety

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) crews are still in attendance at a fire within a steading at a farm in Monikie, near Dundee.

Operations Control received a call at 11.59am yesterday (30 November 2015) reporting a well-developed fire in a steading (50mx20m) involving a large number of hay bales.

Two pumps from Kingsway East in Dundee were initially sent to the scene and they were followed shortly afterwards by two from Balmossie.

The main concern for crews were the two adjacent buildings, a house and another steading which contained around 300 pigs.

The pigs were removed from that building and taken to a safe area and firefighters used four main jets and two ground monitors as covering jets to protect both buildings and a nearby bio-gas plant.

Thankfully no one was injured and crews remain at the scene this morning and are continuing to dampen the area down. A digger will be brought in later today to spread the fire load to ensure the fire is completely extinguished. The steading itself was completely destroyed by fire.
