CM Paterson Receiving The QFSM

Balintore Community Response Unit's Crew Manager, William Paterson, received the QFSM (Queen's Fire Service Medal) from Her Majesty the Queen on 1 July 2015 at the Palace of Holyrood house in recognition of his prolonged service, exceptional ability and merit.

William joined Northern Area Fire Brigade in 1975 and has a reputation as being the 'cornerstone' of the unit at Balintore.

He is a committed advocate of the community safety programme and its delivery through Home Fire Safety Visits.

His warm, friendly manner puts occupiers at ease and he delivers advice to all sections of the community with great authority and tact.

William has been a constant in the unit and is an invaluable source of experience and advice.

An ever-present at training he is always immaculately turned out and an example to all.

Colleagues have described him as a modest and unassuming man who would think nothing of the contribution he has, and continues, to make to the unit and the community at large.

Speaking about William’s award, Station Manager Robbie MacDougall said: "William is a dedicated member of the team at Balintore with considerable experience.

"His passion for helping his community is ever present and he is a credit to the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate William on this well-deserved award on behalf of myself and the colleagues that he has worked with over the years."
