Firefighters used air bags and a hydraulic winch to release a man trapped beneath a tractor in North Ayrshire on Tuesday (28 July).

A request for assistance from ambulance control made around 1:45pm saw Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) crews sent to the incident in Kilbirnie’s Largs Road.

The firefighters arrived to find the casualty trapped by the leg. He was already being cared for by ambulance personnel and, using a hydraulic winch and air bags, the SFRS crews stabilised the tractor before lifting it to release him.

Firefighters assisted paramedics who continued to provide treatment to the casualty before moving him to an ambulance.

He was taken to Crosshouse Hospital near Kilmarnock and SFRS personnel left the scene at 2:35pm.
