McDonald Road fire station open day
23 June 2015
Saturday 4 July from 11am.
McDonald Road fire station is opening its doors to the public for an emergency services open day on Saturday 4 July 2015.
Running from 11am – 3.30pm, this free event welcomes the local community to enjoy a selection of emergency services vehicles, practical demonstrations and community safety advice. Police Scotland, Coastguard and the Scottish Ambulance Service are also attending with stalls and exhibits.
Watch Manager David Anderson, SFRS, said: “This open day is sure to be a great free family day out that is not to be missed. Vehicles from Police Scotland, Scottish Ambulance Service and SFRS will be on display and visitors will be able to see the huge range of equipment that is carried on board each appliance which allows all of our emergency services colleagues to deal with any 999 emergency, but from a fire service perspective: firefighting, attending road traffic collisions, working at height to water rescue.
“Throughout the day the fire service crew will be running a series of demonstrations using pumps and ladders and hydraulic rescue equipment to give a taste of what work we do every day. We also have a variety of stalls including face painting, bouncy castle and tombola.”
While the aim of the day is to have fun, show people the inside of a fire station and pass on advice regarding home fire safety, the crew will also be fundraising for The Fire Fighters Charity who enhance the quality of life for serving and retired firefighters, fire personnel and their families. We have some fantastic raffle and auction prizes. We are also giving a percentage of our fundraising to Hillview Respite Centre in Edinburgh, who are again, continuing to support this event.
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service community safety staff will also be on hand to give advice about fire safety, answer questions and arrange free home fire safety visits.
Watch Manager Anderson continued: “We would love to see as many people from our local community there as possible - come along and join us for a fun family day out."
