A team of Scottish Fire and Rescue Service personel, who normally just cycle for fun, have pedalled their way onto the shortlist for the Firefighters' Charity Team of the Year honour at this year's Spirit of Fire Awards.

The End to End cycling team, made up of firefighters from Grantown, Kingussie and Newtonmore, are one of five nominations for the award which is chosen and presented at a ceremony in London on 2 October 2015.

Station Manager Ross Nixon, said: "I think it is remarkable that a group, who are essentially non-cyclists, could get themselves to a standard where they were able to complete the 1000 mile journey from John O Groats to Land's End.

"It is even more commendable that this determined group of people have managed to raise £12K for the charity.

"The planning for the event took many months and the scale of generosity was overwhelming."

SM Nixon gave particular praise to firefighters Keith Dickinson and Alison Robertson and Watch Manager Stephen Scott for their relentless organisation and drive, but also praised everyone involved, saying they "should be extremely proud of their achievement and their nomination for this prestigious award."
