Scottish Fire and Rescue Service attended reports of a possible fire within the basement of Inverness Castle at 6.49am this morning (27 May 2015).

Two appliances from Inverness were sent to the scene and were quickly able to locate a small amount of smoke coming from the basement area.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus and carrying a hose reel jet entered the basement and located the source of the smoke, which was overheating electrical cables. Crews then spent time ventilating the building.

They also used a thermal imaging camera to check for any signs of fire. The last appliance left the scene at 10.05am.

No one was injured as a result.
