Firefighters tackled a fire at a derelict building in Cowdenbeath last night (26 April).

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) Thornton Operations Control mobilised crews from Lochgelly fire station to the single storey premise in the High Street at 9.27pm.

On arrival firefighters discovered the building and roof well-alight.  Crews immediately used two main jets and a hose reel jet to fight the fire externally.

After the collapse of the roof, firefighters continued firefighting operations to ensure the fire was extinguished. They remained on scene checking for hotspots and dampening down the affected area.

An investigation will take place to establish the cause of the fire.

Inspector Hannah Morrison said: “A joint investigation between the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Police Scotland is now underway to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding this incident.

“We’re urging anyone who can assist with our enquiries, or who saw any suspicious behaviour in the area at the time of the incident, to come forward.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
