Remembering the Kilbirnie Street Fire tragedy

Today, Monday the 25th of August marks the 42nd anniversary of the Kilbirnie Street fire which claimed the lives of seven members of the Glasgow Fire Service.

To mark this poignant occasion, a wreath laying ceremony will take place at the Necropolis, overlooking Glasgow Cathedral at 11am. The ceremony will be attended by families, friends and colleagues of the deceased firemen.

In honour of our fallen comrades, representatives of the SFRS including Chief Officer Alasdair Hay, Deputy Chief Officer Alex Clark, Assistant Chief Officer Lewis Ramsay plus a host of other principal officers will attend to pay their respects. Wreaths will also be laid by representatives of Glasgow City Council, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Heritage Trust, Family Support Trust and Retired Employees Association.
