Fire in Perthshire Hotel

Publish Date:

At its peak eight appliances were in attendance

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was called to a fire in a Highland Perthshire Hotel early this morning (18 August).

Operations Control Dundee received the first of several calls at 4am to a fire located at the Spittal of Glenshee Hotel and immediately mobilised appliances from volunteer stations Glenshee and Kirkmichael along with appliances from retained stations Blairgowrie, Braemar, Alyth, Pitlochry, Kirriemuir, Balmossie and wholetime station Blackness Road.

The hotel, believed to be unoccupied, was well alight from the front of the building.  Firefighters worked hard to tackle the fire with five main jets at its peak to bring it under control.  Once good progress was made to extinguish the fire, four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus were committed to search the remainder two wings of the building and found the premise empty.

The Fire Investigation Team has been requested and two appliances currently remain on scene dampening down the affected areas.
