Three appliances from Dumfries attended the incident yesterday

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was called to respond to a fire at one of the Barony College buildings around seven miles from Dumfries yesterday (21 August 2014).

The fire which started in a concrete building, a third of which is used for paper shredding, was reported at 4.42pm.

Three appliances from Dumfries were sent to the scene and firefighters in breathing apparatus used a hosereel jet and main jet to tackle the blaze.

Crews received assistance from the college who provided a heavy plant machine. This enabled the extraction of large amounts of paper which was spread out so that firefighters could dampen the area down more easily.

Firefighters remained at the scene until around 8pm.
