Firefighters tackle cottage fire in Fife
24 March 2014
Crews were on the scene for over three hours fighting the fire.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were called to Cunnoquhie Garden Cottage, Letham on Saturday night (22 March) just after 10pm after the occupier came home and discovered the fire.
Crews from Cupar, Auchtermuchty, Newburgh and Glenrothes attended the fire which had spread up through the roof space. After assessing the situation, firefighters fought the fire externally as it was too dangerous to commit crews into the property. Using short extension ladders, crews made holes in the roof and tackled the fire with two main jets and wearing breathing apparatus.
Station Manager Andy Bennett said: “The location was challenging for crews with just one appliance managing to get reasonably close to the incident. Firefighters had to carry equipment to the site to allow them to fight the fire.
“Crews ferried water and set a portable pump into a nearby burn until the fire was extinguished.
"Once the fire was extinguished crews tackled hot spots internally, using a hose reel jet and a thermal imaging camera."
The cause of the fire is unknown.
