Fatal road traffic collision in West Lothian

Firefighters work with paramedics to free trapped casualty

Crews from West Calder and Livingston were called to a serious road traffic collision on the A71 one mile east of West Calder, West Lothian at 9.18pm last night (27 March).

The collision involved three private cars with one male trapped. Firefighters worked closely with paramedics to free the casualty using specialist hydraulic cutting equipment.

However, despite best efforts of all the emergency service personnel involved, he sadly died at the scene. Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.

One male casualty and one female casualty from the other vehicles were taken to St John's Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The road was closed for six hours and police have appealed for anyone with information about the crash to contact them.
