Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were called to attend reports of a house fire in the Brighton Place area of Aberdeen at 8.55pm last night (23 March 2014).

Two appliances from North Anderson Drive and one from Central were sent to the scene.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus used a hosereel jet to extinguish the fire which was well established prior to their arrival.

Crews then located one elderly male fatality within the property. They used thermal imaging cameras to check there were no other people inside and to ensure there was no further fire spread. No one else was found within the three storey semi-detached house.

Firefighters then used a PPV (Positive Pressure Ventilation) fan to clear the building of smoke. The last appliance left the scene at around 11.30pm.

A joint fire and Police Scotland investigation into the cause is being carried out today.
