Fire at house in Portree, Isle of Skye over weekend

Three people received treatment following the fire in Matheson Place


Scottish Fire and Rescue Service attended a house fire in the Matheson Place area of Portree in the early hours of 21 December 2013.

Two appliances, one from Portree and one from Uig, were sent to the scene at around 5.06am.

Upon arrival one person was already out of the semi-detached house which was affected by fire and was being treated by paramedics. Two other people from the adjoining house, which was affected by smoke, were taken to hospital for treatment due to smoke inhalation.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus used one main jet and one hosereel jet to extinguish the fire. They also deployed a thermal imaging camera to check there was no one else in the property.

The last appliance left the scene at 7.33am. A joint fire and police investigation in ongoing into the cause of the fire.
