SFRS dealt with fire at a dovecot in Dalkeith

Around 18 birds believed to have died and police are describing it as an incident of "wilful fireraising"


Firefighters were called to deal with a fire in a garden shed which was used as a dovecot at a house in Dalkeith at the weekend.

The incident was reported at around 3.13am on Saturday (21 September 2013) in the Hill Place area of the town.

The shed was well alight when firefighters arrived. Two appliances attended, one from Dalkeith and one from Musselburgh.

Firefighters used one high pressure hose reel jet to extinguish the fire. One female casualty was treated by ambulance staff for smoke inhalation.
