Crews use extrication equipement to free trapped casualty

Two appliances from Fraserburgh were called to a serious road traffic collision on the A90 near the village of Lonmay, Aberdeenshire at  6.14pm yesterday (24 September).

The collision involved two private cars and whilst the occupant of one of the vehicles had managed to free himself, crews had to use cutting gear to extricate a male casualty from the second vehicle.

Firefighters then worked very closely with emergency response doctors to treat the injured man, but despite their combined best efforts he sadly died.

Police Scotland carried out a full road collision investigation.

LSO (Local Senior Officer) for Aberdeenshire, David Rout, was Incident Commander for SFRS at the scene.

He said: "The professionalism demonstrated by our crews in working with emergency response doctors was exemplary.

"Despite everyone's best efforts the man passed away and our thoughts are with his family."
