Ongoing incident at Buchanan Galleries, Glasgow

Crews in attendance following automated alarm


Firefighters are currently at the scene of an incident at Buchanan Galleries in Glasgow city centre.

Around 10:40am the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service received reports of an automated alarm activating and smoke visible within the building.

The centre was safely evacuated and crews investigated the source of the smoke.

They identified a deep seated fire within the structure and began work To access and extinguish it.

Police are in attendance for traffic and crowd control,  with both the centre and several commercial properties on Sauchiehall Street closed as the emergency services operate.

Glasgow City Council Building Control Officers are at the scene and the incident is likely to be on-going for some time.
