Prompt action by Linlithgow retained firefighters ensures public safety

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service crew were mobilised shortly before 3.30am today (Wednesday 28th August) in response to reports of a fire near a petrol station in Linlithgow.

The ‘retained’ crew of part-time firefighters from Linlithgow fire station were on the scene within minutes.

Retained firefighters are widely employed across Scotland to augment full-time personnel in providing an emergency fire and rescue service. They are on call around the clock to respond to incidents, as well as being committed to regular training to keep their skills in top condition.

On discovering several wheelie bins alight outside a house on Broomyhead Place, Linlithgow, these 'local heroes' proceeded to tackle the flames using two high pressure hose reels.

The fire was quickly extinguished before it could spread. There were no casualties.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
