Crews work hard to contain fire that causes roof collapse
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Operations Control Thornton received a call yesterday (23
rd July) just before 10.30am to a fire at a farm on Kennoway Road in Windygates, Fife.
Crews from Methil, Glenrothes and Kirkcaldy attended and on arrival discovered the fire in the roof space of a bungalow that had started due to a lightning strike.
The fire in the 20m x 10m roof space was rapidly spreading and the roof became unstable. Firefighters tackled the fire from outside with main jets and eventually the roof collapsed.
Station Manager Steven Michie says “This was a challenging incident as the farm was situated in a remote location and we had to use the burn for an additional water supply.
“Crews were on scene until around 4.30pm dampening down the area and checking for potential hot spots. We are continuing regular checks today and our colleagues from the Council planning dept have deemed the structure as unstable.”
