50 firefighters tackle blaze overnight
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) Operations Control Maddiston received reports of a farm fire in the Avonbridge area, West Lothian just before 10:30 pm last night (27th June).
Appliances were immediately dispatched from Slamannan and Falkirk community fire stations, and on arrival, firefighters discovered a well developed fire within a farm cottage, with fire spreading from the ground floor to the loft space.
Crews immediately got to work with firefighters donning breathing apparatus and tackled the blaze with water jets. Water supplies in the area were found to be poor and a water carrying vehicle was requested from Larbert, with further supporting appliances sent from Bathgate, Linlithgow and Whitburn stations, along with an Aerial Ladder Platform mobilised from Falkirk.
Firefighters worked in difficult conditions into the early hours of the morning to bring the fire under control. Once water supplies were secured firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze using four lines of hose and a height appliance as a water tower.
At height of the fire some 50 firefighters fought the fire. Firefighters continued working overnight to dampen down the affected areas and a fire investigation is now underway to establish the cause of the fire.
