Firefighters deal with rapid developing fire at vehicle scrap yard

At 12:27am today (29 April), Scottish Fire and Rescue Service control staff in Thornton received a 999 call reporting a fire, along with the sound of an explosion, within an Industrial Estate area of Dysart in Fife.

Two fire appliances from Kirkcaldy and Methil fire stations were mobilised to the scene.

Upon their arrival, firefighters were met with a rapidly developing fire within a vehicle scrap yard involving around 200 cars.  The Incident Commander immediately requested additional resources, which resulted in appliances being mobilised to the scene from Glenrothes, Cupar, Auchtermuchty, St Monans and Dunfermline fire stations.

Ten fire appliances are in attendance and firefighters are currently using a number of main jets and ground firefighting monitors to tackle the blaze.

This incident is currently ongoing.
