Freedom of Information

We are committed to promoting and actively developing a culture of openness, transparency and accountability embodied in the Access to Information legislation.

The Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 (FOISA) provides you with a general right of access to recorded information.  Subject to certain conditions and exemptions, if you make a request to us for recorded information you will be entitled to receive it.

You can view our Freedom of Information Requests Handling Procedure for further information.

We maintain a Guide to Information (Publication Scheme) which details the information we make available routinely and which can be quickly and easily accessed via our website.

If the information you seek is not available on our website, you can make a request to access that information.

Your request should be in writing, and whilst you are not required to do so, we have created a form which will assist you to provide the information we need to process your request. You can submit your request electronically by completing our online enquiry form. If you are including information to support your request, please email it to SFRSInformationGovernance@firescotland.gov.uk

Your request should detail the information you seek or provide as much information as possible to enable us to locate the information you seek.  If required, we may write to you to clarify aspects of your request.

Once we received your written request and clarification, if this is required, we will acknowledge your request within 3 working days and will respond to your request within 20 working days from receipt.

There may be some exemptions to providing the information and if this is the case we will inform you of this, as well as reasons for applying the exemption.

If you are not satisfied with the response you receive from us, you may request a review.  Details of how to do this will be provided with the response.

If you are still dissatisfied following our review you may appeal to the Office of the Scottish Information Commissioner.  Further information about the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act, your rights under the Act and the obligations placed on us can be found on the Office of the Scottish Information Commissioner's website.
