We have a wide range of career opportunities across all specialties. Check out some of the diverse support roles helping us deliver our Service to local communities.
Support Staff Roles
It’s not just our firefighters who make Scotland a safer country. If you’re looking for a career with variety, a challenge and opportunities for progression, and all the benefits you’d expect from one of Scotland’s key public service organisations, then why not consider joining us in one of our specialist or administrative support functions.
Modern Apprenticeship
We are pleased to confirm that a firefighter Modern Apprenticeship framework has now been approved by the Modern Apprenticeship Group, with SFRS confirmed as the Employer Provider. This means new firefighters joining SFRS will undertake their three year development programme as a Modern Apprenticeship. At the end of the programme trainee firefighters will receive a Modern Apprenticeship qualification as well as an SVQ. Please note minimum entry of entry for this Modern Apprenticeship is 18, there is no upper age limit.
We are also pleased to offer Modern Apprenticeship positions within our Support Services departments. These Modern Apprenticeships are available for 16 – 24 year olds, and allow you to combine in work training and experience with a recognised SVQ qualification. Modern Apprentices last for a minimum 12 months. During this time you will receive support from both the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and a training provider to achieve your SVQ qualification and make the most of your experience working with us. Our departments are busy and the work we do is varied. Our Support Services departments include Administration, Procurement, Business Support, ICT, Finance and HR.
We will have opportunities in various departments – all our Modern Apprenticeship vacancies will be advertised on our recruitment pages so please check back regularly for any new opportunities. Our recruitment process for Modern Apprenticeships includes opportunities to meet with training providers, see where you’ll be working and meeting some of the people you will be working with, to help you decide if an opportunity is the right one for you.
