The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) needs to transform to better meet the risks now facing Scotland. However, we simply cannot ignore the financial realities.
All public sector organisations face financial challenges with intense budgetary pressures.
Since the creation of the SFRS in 2013 we have taken out £52.3M of costs while protecting the frontline but we cannot sustain the current frontline delivery model beyond this financial year.
Whilst the Service will continue to fight for new funds there is no guarantee that we will secure additional funding.
Our choice is either planned transformation, or financial-driven cuts. Transformation will allow us to enhance our Service and deliver so much more for the people of Scotland.
