Firefighters freed an injured woman who was trapped in a car after it collided with a van in South Ayrshire.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) crews used hydraulic cutting equipment to remove the driver and passenger-side doors from the car, which created the space needed to safely lift the casualty clear on a rescue board.

She was then taken to Ayr Hospital by ambulance. The male driver of the van was also taken to hospital after receiving oxygen from firefighters at the scene.

The incident happened shortly before 9:30 this morning (Tuesday 16 February) on the A70 near the B744 and SFRS crews were sent in response to a call from ambulance control.

Firefighters arrived seven minutes later and the two crews from Ayr Community Fire Station remained at the scene until around 10:30am.
