Scottish Fire and Rescue Service crews remain at the scene of a fire at industrial premises in Alloa’s Mar Place which happened earlier this afternoon (23 July 2015).

Control received a call at 12.27pm reporting a well-developed fire within a storage depot used by a local acting school.

Appliances from Alloa, Tillicoultry, Stirling, the water carrier from Larbert, Aerial Ladder Platform (ALP) from Falkirk and a support appliance all attended.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus used three hose reel jets and two main jets to tackle the fire. The roof of the premise collapsed shortly after the arrival of crews.

The fire has now been brought under control and crews are damping the area down.

Group Manager Gordon Pryde, who is at the scene, said: “When the crews arrived the building was well-alight and fire had spread to the roof.

“The crews turned up very quickly, accessed the building and worked hard to extinguish the fire.

“We are now checking for any fire spread and will extinguish the fire within collapsed areas, when it is deemed safe to enter the affected area.”

He added: “Half of the building has been saved but half if completely destroyed. There were a lot of costumes in the building, the material of which is highly flammable.”

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service’s Fire Investigation Unit has also been requested and a joint investigation into the cause will take place in due course with colleagues from Police Scotland, who are also in attendance.
