SFRS in attendance at large fire at hotel in Ballater, Aberdeenshire

The fire in the roof space of the hotel is being tackled from the outside by fire crews

Ballater Hotel Fire

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is continuing to fight a large fire at the Darroch Learg Hotel in Braemar Road, Ballater, Aberdeenshire.

The incident was reported to Aberdeen Control at 3.50pm and a number of appliances were dispatched to the scene. Over 50 firefighters are now involved in the incident.

Appliances from Ballater, Aboyne, Braemar, Strathdon and two from Banchory are at the scene, along with the height vehicle from Central in Aberdeen, the Incident Command Vehicle from Altens and Incident Support Vehicle from Dyce. The Welfare Pod from Huntly is also in attendance.

Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) were contacted and have isolated the power to the property. Crews in breathing apparatus are fighting the fire in sectors and there are six main jets in use.

The fire in the roof space of the three floor hotel was well-developed when firefighters arrived and the operation is currently ongoing.

SFRS Group Manager David Meldrum is co-ordinating the operation at the fireground with support from Station Managers Colin Westwood and Graham Goonan.
