The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was called to assist with a man trapped under a train; located close to Uddingston Railway Station in South Lanarkshire on Saturday night (27 September).

Operations Control Johnstone received the first of several 999 calls at 9.09pm and mobilised two fire appliances and one heavy rescue vehicle, containing specialist lifting equipment, to the scene from Hamilton, Bellshill and Easterhouse community fire stations.

On their arrival firefighters quickly established a safe working area in and around the train by requesting Network Rail to stop all rail traffic coming in and out of the railway station.  Fire crews worked alongside colleagues from the British Transport Police, Police Scotland and the Scottish Ambulance Service to quickly remove the casualty from under the train and provided on scene medical treatment prior to their transportation to nearby Monklands Hospital.

There will be a full investigation into the incident conducted by the British Transport Police.
